Il Gelso is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the vineyards of Tenuta del Gelso located in the heart of the Bertinoro comune. Legend has it that Galla Placidia, daughter of the Emperor Thoedosius, while passing through the region, having tried a wine served in a humble terracotta cup, declared: "you should be drunk in gold" (berti in oro, in Italian), from which the town took its name.
Tasting Notes: A lifted wine showing aromatics of Marasca cherry, black currant, raspberry. The palate shows traditional characters or wines from Bertinoro, with soft succulent tannins that are supported by dark fruits and balanced acidity. Notes of plum and “earth” add complexity while the balance of fruit intensity and the light oak through the back provide great length.
