Lasagne originated in the Emilia-Romagna region of north central Italy. Originally made by the Romans, these flat sheets of pasta were called laganum which came from "lasanum", the Latin word for pot. It was much later before the term lasagne became synonymous with the wonderful layered pasta dish we all know and love.
