Description

A juniper berry is the seed cone produced by various species of junipers, characterized by its berry-like appearance due to fleshy and merged scales. Though not a true berry, it is used as a spice, particularly in European cuisine, and contributes to the distinctive flavor of gin. Juniper berries are often regarded as the sole spice derived from conifers, although other parts of pine trees, such as tar and inner bark, are sometimes considered spices as well, especially in Apache cuisines.
